It turns out that if a person wants to spend a very good deal of time, and brainpower, he or she can perform the functions of an attorney in a variety of situations. for example, there are good will-kits on the market, and, a person can do a bankruptcy pro-se (for him or her self). Further, some attorneys are skilled at securities litigation, intellectual property (patents, trademarks and copyrights), banking, family law (divorce), and various other specialties. But, when is an attorney needed?
It turns out that an attorney is needed often- that, even though a person, or businessperson might feel that they can handle a matter by themselves, that, often- probably almost always- it is key to have an advocate- a third party who is looking out ONLY for you, on your side. That concept- one of having an advisor- and ADVOCATE- right there, where and when you need him/her- YOUR lawyer- that fact that you are not alone- that you have someone who can be totally objective at your side- that can mean more than anything else- more than all of the schooling- more than all of the brains in the world.
When you have someone intelligent, someone who is charged with looking out for JUST YOUR interests- well, that can and does mean everything. For the businessperson, having a good lawyer on their side can mean having someone to OBJECTIVELY analyze a situation. That concept of objectivity is something that can take a good part of one's lifetime to understand- its importance- it can mean everything. Cool, objectivity- the ability to see a situation from outside of one's own limited and ego-attached horizons- can easily make a world of difference in many a situation- be it business or personal, civil or criminal.
Having a good attorney on your side is never a guarantee of "winning" or of "succeeding". But, having an objective advocate on your team can make a world of difference in a multitude of situations throughout one's life. It can make a huge difference in one's business, if one has an attorney with a good business background. It is difficult to quantify, but the concept of third party objectivity and support (the attorney), can mean more than anything else when it comes to real world situations.
